Services which support young people and their families are provided by a range of UnitingCare agencies throughout New South Wales and ACT. They include the ecuemenical Street Works Program based around the Chatswood Transport Interchange as well as drop in and support services such as those provided by UnitingCare Burnside at Macarthur, where up to 50 young people a day — many homeless - attend for advice, referral, counselling, meals or simply "somewhere to hang out"
UnitingCare programs such as Unifam's Options program provides mediation and family therapy, working with young people and their families to reduce family breakdown and youth homelessness. Issues range from school refusal to cases involving substance abuse, violence and suicide prevention. These are typical of the issues facing young people as they struggle to find their own identities in a world of uncertainty and challenge.
